If you are looking for a perfect start to your vacation or just need to be in a tranquil environment and be pampered for the full stay of your vacation, then Sweetfield Manor (SM) is the ideal destination in Barbados. We were travelling for 16 days with 2 kids, aged 4 and 8, and wanted to kick off the first leg of our vacation somewhere relaxing and away from the usual hotel atmosphere with a genuine island flair. We chose SM because of its reputation of being authentically Caribbean.
SM is a beautifully renovated plantation house situated close to Bridgetown and just a 20 minute walk from one of the most delightful beaches in Barbados, Browns beach. SM is a charming and elegantly furnished enclosed hide-away with a reputation of being a fitting wedding backdrop, simply because to its lavishly kept gardens and scenic view of the Barbados coast.
Our reservation was seamless and the staff at SM are very friendly and attentive. On arrival, we were graciously welcomed with greeting cocktails and were shown to our Captains quarters for the first 2 nights in the main house. A typical Bed and Breakfast is an understatement, as the main house on this plantation, is handsomely outfitted and deservingly boasts a huge king size bed that provided a very comfortable sleep. Every morning an elaborate breakfast was prepared for us with fresh local produce and for the kids there was always something special added.
For 3 nights we stayed in the Carriage House. Here we had the chance to really let ourselves go in terms of the added space and a beautiful open terrace. The kids had bunk beds, which is always treat and we had a small kitchenette, which was handy to prepare food for ourselves throughout the day. Again the setting here, right in the garden, was picturesque and above all, the rooms where immaculate and clean. SM has such charm and as a guest, it is obvious that attention has been paid to every detail.
We had a perfect stay at SM. I cannot emphasis more how happy we were with our decision to stay there. Thank you again to the staff for their hospitality and for making our stay so memorable for our Family.

I spent 5 nights at Sweetfield Manor in April. I was travelling with two girlfriends for a little getaway and this was the perfect spot for it! The hotel is an easy 20 minute drive from the airport and we were greeted with delicious rum punches. The beach was very close by and we planned our other excursions (catamaran, caves) based on input from Michelle. We had lots of time to relax by the pool and to enjoy outdoor massages as well as an outdoor movie with a delicious dinner and wine. Our breakfasts were spectacular and we thoroughly enjoyed the dessert that came at the end of it! The three of us stayed in the Carriage House which has a lovely back patio/verandah area. This is a very spacious suite that has a small kitchen area with a coffee maker and refrigerator. The main house is a lovely old plantation house which is beautifully furnished. There are games available to play and a scenic verandah to enjoy coffee or tea. The grounds are lush and the peacocks are a sight to see! We initially considered an all-inclusive when planning this trip but we were all so glad that we ended up choosing Sweetfield. We had an amazing trip and can't wait to go back!

Just returned from a five night getaway with two good friends! This was an amazing treat. It is so unique and charming. We had activities everyday and also time to catch up. Outdoor movie night, afternoon tea in the beautiful garden and massages were a real hit. Lots of opportunities to see the island (rum tour, caves, beach time , restaurants) while also enjoying the serenity of Sweetfield. The chef prepared amazing food and everyone working there was delightful and eager to please, even the gardener who got us fresh coconuts off the tree to drink the delicious water! If you are looking an escape from the usual carribean resort this is the place!!!

We stayed three nights at this fabulous boutique hotel in March. It is a beautifully restored historic manor with wonderful living and dining room on the main floor, with original pieces and furniture that display island living, abundant with charm. We had welcome drinks on the verandah overlooking the lush grounds and gardens. The peacocks were a sight to behold and it was a pleasure to see them in full display. We stayed in the carriage house which is great for families, with a master bedroom and a loft bed for our son. It has its own private verandah and eating area, leading out to the garden and pool. L'Occitane bath products were luxurious and there is a huge shower and bathroom. The three course breakfast was a great start to the day, with a different main course every day, featuring salmon, eggs, bacon, etc. There is coffee and tea in the living room offered throughout the day. This is a true oasis and perfect if you are looking for a unique stay in a historic setting on a gorgeous island!

The high walls and gate conceal the beauty that lies on the inside. Once you pass through the gates, prepare to be mesmerized.

We are just back from three nights at Sweetfield Manor and were THRILLED with our stay! This is true Bajan living! The manor itself is beautiful and the grounds are absolutely spectacular! Each morning before breakfast, we sat on the terrace and watched the property's peacocks in full display! This is NOT the 'cookie cutter' Caribbean experience! Breakfasts were a gracious and expertly prepared experience, their rum punch is the best on the island (and, believe me, I sampled every rum punch I could get my hands on!) and their pool was an oasis of calm. Skip the chain hotels and try something locally owned and operated for an authentic experience!
